What does “sustainable transportation” mean to your organization?
As a business located in downtown Boise, we recognize the challenges our employees face when commuting – the lack of parking, the expense of parking, and increased traffic, to name a few. However, we see sustainable transportation as a solution to these hurdles. By helping our employees understand the options available to them and encouraging the use of alternative transportation, we can make a difference now and help build sustainable and healthy commute habits that will positively impact Boise for years to come.
What inspires and drives your organization’s work on sustainable transportation?
Ultimately, our efforts boil down to supporting our employees. If they feel supported and have the resources readily available to make smarter transportation choices, we all win.
In what ways does your organization promote sustainable transportation?
Our team has been working remotely since last March, and we are hoping to be back in our office in August. Planning for our return to work has provided a great opportunity to help employees rethink their commute options. For instance, we are now offering every employee a free annual bus pass through our City Go membership. We’re also developing new policies that will allow employees more flexibility to work from home each week or the location of their choosing for an extended period of time. We’re striving to make it as easy as possible for our employees to make smart and sustainable transportation choices.
Additionally, we love participating in local campaigns that promote alternative transportation, like May in Motion and Ridetober. This year, we were also excited and humbled to receive the Platinum May in Motion award and to be named City Go’s 2021 Sustainability Leader as part of our efforts.
Sustainable transportation is more important than ever, and we love giving our team the resources they need to make a positive impact on the environment, our community, and their health. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy starting their day with some fresh air and a relaxing bike ride?
What transportation initiatives are most exciting for your organization?
Oh! So many great things are coming! We’re excited to see Valley Regional Transit bring Idaho’s first electric buses into service in Boise and Meridian later this fall. (Have you ridden one? So quiet. So smooth.) We’re also ready to put the City Go Pay Platform and Umo Pass app to good use as soon as they launch later this year. Having an all-in-one app for all your transportation needs will be a game-changer for Boise!
Why is your organization’s participation in City Go important?
We were lucky to help support City Go’s initial brand launch. And as we learned more about the program and its mission to address local transportation issues and shape the future of mobility in our quickly growing city, we were 100% in! City Go provides our team with resources and guidance on the many transportation options available to us and access to discounted transit passes. It also helps our team recognize and connect with other like-minded businesses downtown.
